Cubs Starter Spot Still Up in the Air
The race for the 5th starters spot has begun, well sort of. Although spring training has not yet begun, speculation as to what the Cubs are going to do is a hot topic as of late. There are 3 options for the Cubs to choose, to trade for a starter, to sign a starter from a great group of available pitchers, or to find an in-house candidate. Of course, there are still rumors of the Jake Peavy deal, which could happen due to the change in ownership. Their second option could be their easiest to complete due to the amount of quality starters available. The Cubs have been rumored to be intrested in Olver Perez and Randy Wolf. The third option is to choose from worthy candidates already with the club. These candidates are Sean Marshall, who would be considedered the front runner, Jeff Samardzija, Angel Guzman, Kevin Hart, and Rich Hill. Marshall, Samardzija and Guzman are considered the most likley candidates, while Hart and Hill are a far shot. Hill is said to be on his way out of Chicago without a good spring, and he currently out of options. Read More.
